Sports Therapy & Sports Massage

Whether a serious sports injury......

or just a little one.

a professionals help and advice is important for correct recovery to begin.
Sports Therapy and Sports Massage are all meant to treat the individual and get them back to “full functional fitness in the safest shortest time”. That is always my objective.

INITIAL EXAMINATION & ASSESSMENT

After 17 years of practicing Sports Physiotherapy I have built up what I believe to be a very sound practice ethos. I have often found that by questioning a client a little longer can unearth underlying problem even they did not associate with their injury.
I pride myself on my investigation’s prior to ever treating someone to ensure I am; A) Treating the right thing B) The right way.

Whether a client’s injury is acute or chronic, I am confident that I can help them in some way get back on the road to fitness.

HOLISTIC APPROACH

The benefit of my experience in many areas of fitness can also help during treatments as I will apply my knowledge and expertise in these areas to the injury. As opposed to using just massage or just mobilisation techniques or just using rehabilitation techniques, I can use all of my knowledge from Personal Training, Group Fitness Training and Sports Therapy to be able to assist the rehabilitation. I use an holistic approach to treatment and will also use everyday situations and movements to assist in recovery.

PRE EVENT CONDITIONING

As a lover of sports myself I know how critical it can be for people to get back to training or even just their every day life in a pain free manor which can be even harder sometimes. I have played Semi Pro Rugby League as well as being a Muay Thai fighter for many years, at the same time as teaching up to 30 Group Fitness classes a week. I picked up very few injuries due to good conditioning prior to fights or games. My core conditioning as well as my all over muscular conditioning and tone helped me stay injury free for most of my sporting career.

SPORTS MASSAGE.

Whether it is relaxation or for pre or post event, massage can have a huge positive effect on your whole body not just the muscular system.
Often clients just want relaxation massages to wind down after busy week, a tough weekend, a long game of golf or tennis. A massage can help to relax the muscles which in turn releases the nerves leaving you feeling refreshed and re-invigorated.
Some serious trainers want pre event massage which is ‘excitatory’ and stimulates the muscles into being ready for the sport ahead. Post event massage can be even more important to relax the very tight muscles from intense short or long duration exercise.
The majority of my clients are every day people who have every day stresses, strains and tightness and just need their neck, back, legs, feet, or scalp relaxing.

SPORTS INJURY REHABILITATION.

Using all my experience and knowledge I attempt to get a working diagnoses and continually reassess this all along the rehabilitation route. As the injury heals the objectives change as does the treatment.
Whether the injury is gained from a full on Rugby tackle or from twisting an ankle whilst reaching for a tin of beans I can assist in recovery. The mechanics of an injury may be different but many of the techniques of rehabilitation are the same.
For example, many people forget the every day things that need to be tried. After a hand injury, every day movements like turning a key in a lock, grabbing something off the table, shaking hands with someone are all 'grips' that need to rehabilitated and used for the muscles, ligaments and nerves to re-learn their job again.
If your objective is to get back on the football pitch to play in your local team as soon as possible or for you just to return to work after a painful neck injury, I can help you to achieve these goals.

If you just want a massage to relax or to help get into the zone for a specific sport or event, contact me to see how my experience as a Sports Physiotherapist, Sports Conditioning Trainer and Sports Masseur can help you.
